Position Summary

QED is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our software development team in Marlton, New Jersey.

The Database Administrator will work within the QED development team to implement and manage databases and related applications within the QED platform in support of QED clients. The Database Administrator is responsible for the proper architecture, operation, maintenance, recovery, security and integrity of database software and the data stored within the QED platform.

The QED development team establishes ongoing business processes, approaches, and disciplines for investment management, portfolio accounting, analysis and reporting in support of QED clients including buy-side institutional investment plans, asset managers, wealth managers, portfolio managers, investment trading professionals, and accounting professionals.

Position Responsibilities

This position is appropriate for a database administrator who has developed essential skills in database administration and who will work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support production databases as well as software development activities.

  • Implement and maintain database infrastructure;
  • Provide day to day administration, support, and maintenance for MySQL database and related applications and scripts;
  • Optimize database queries, reporting, and related applications;
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation for the database environment;
  • Perform operations to ensure the integrity of the database schema and the resident data;
  • Monitor synchronization of database replicas;
  • Identify and resolve database performance issues;
  • Monitor and manage business tasks as they relate to the database environment;
  • Execute requests for data analysis, research, and investigations;
  • Work with internal customers to schedule and manage changes;
  • Provide internal and external client support related to the database environment;
  • Perform other related duties as required;

Position Qualification Requirements

    Education
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering or related discipline required;
  • MySQL or related certifications required;
    Experience
  • A minimum of five years of relevant work experience in database administration is required;
    Knowledge
  • Knowledge of investments, securities, and financial accounting principles is a plus;
  • Understanding of performance measurement evaluation and reporting methodologies is a plus;
  • Familiarity with financial statement and reports processing is a plus;
    Professional Skills
  • Expert knowledge of databases including MySQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL server required;
  • Knowledge of database technologies including JDBC, ODBC, ISAM, DAO, ADO.NET required;
  • Knowledge of Solaris and Linux operating systems required;
  • Intermediate to expert knowledge of Oracle Sun server hardware infrastructure required;
  • Broad range of experience with computer software, hardware, operating systems (including Oracle Sun and Microsoft Windows), web servers, and web clients;
  • Proficiency with UNIX scripting and UNIX scripting tools required;
  • Proficiency with MySQL database tools and complex data queries required;
  • Knowledge of backup strategies required;
  • Knowledge of clusters and high availability technologies required;
  • Knowledge of formal change management and incident management processes;
  • Experience with data feeds and data extraction, translation, and loading (ETL);
  • Familiarity with data modeling software;
  • Experience with Business Intelligence reporting including Jaspersoft a plus;
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and communications skills are required;
  • Ability to adapt to changing climate needs and priorities and to work independently and concurrently on several projects is required;
  • Comfortable working on, and contributing to, a dynamic and evolving software platform;
  • Excellent critical thinking and multitasking skills and the ability to maintain focus on multiple priorities with a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and assignments is required;
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and discuss problems as they arise, research possible solutions as necessary, and resolve problems in a timely and satisfactory manner is required;
