QED Adopts OCC Options Symbology

QED Adopts OCC Identification for Options Pricing and Security Master Setup

QED Financial Systems has incorporated the Options Clearing Corporation's (OCC) Options Symbology Initiative (OSI) into the QED financial data management and portfolio accounting platform.

The Options Symbology Initiative, headed by the OCC, replaces the five-character symbols traditionally used to identify US and Canadian options with a 21-character descriptor (Symbology Key) that explains the underlying option at a glance.

The 21-character option identifier consists of, in order, the option root symbol (the underlying equity ticker symbol of the contract), the contract expiration date, an option type indicator (call or put), and the strike price.

The OCC options identifier can be used interchangeably within the QED platform with other vendor-specific pricing identifiers such as Bloomberg's two-character code, Interactive Data's 8-character CUSIP-like identifier as well as with client-defined custom identification mapping schemes.  The QED platform automatically returns the corresponding underlying security characteristics, contract terms, and pricing information given any combination of terms or identification.

Anthony Castile, QED Financial Systems' Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, commented, "Full integration of the OCC options identifier within the QED platform continues QED's unwavering commitment to our clients to keep their enterprise investment operations and portfolio management system in pace with the continued evolution of the global financial industry."  He continued, "The elegant architecture of the QED platform provides for rapid development and deployment of enhancements and features to ensure our clients are continuously able to concentrate on their investment business with the knowledge that their financial data management system will support their objectives."
